Always remove makeup
This is a must, a golden rule. No matter how you get back from your late-night shenanigans, if you want a glowing face, you need to clear it of every makeup item you have applied on it. The skin needs to be free of any compound and needs to breathe overnight. Makeup clogs the pores, which leads to dust collection and causes blemishes and acne.
TIP: Use a clean cotton pad dipped in virgin olive oil or cold-pressed coconut oil to remove your makeupinstead of a makeup remover.
Exfoliate for face glow
This step is imperative to get rid of layers of dead skin, to provide a healthy shine to your skin. This can be done with a variety of home remedies, or you can choose from a variety of off-the-shelf products. Exfoliation will lead to brighter skin. An effective homemade scrub can be made with walnuts. Mix two tablespoons of coarsely crushed walnuts with two tablespoons of thick yogurt into a paste. Apply this on your face and leave it on for about 30 minutes until it starts to dry out. Wash it off with lukewarm water. The antioxidants in the walnuts will lead to the further glowing of the skin.
TIP: You can substitute the yogurt with honey or fresh home cream (malai).
Adequate sun protection
In a tropical country like ours, the sun can wreak havoc on the facial skin, whether it is visible or not and can lead to damaging effects in the long run. Sunblock with the appropriate SPF, as suggested by an expert is absolutely necessary. Ensure your sunscreen blocks both, UVA and UVB rays. This will help prevent wrinkles, age spots and pigmentation. Also, if possible, cover your face with a scarf during harsh summer months, and visits beaches and high altitude places.
TIP: Apply sunscreen even if you are going to be indoors since the harmful rays effect there as well.
Eat right
This is true for all health-related issues. There are certain foods that help improve skin glow and provide all the necessary vitamins that the body needs. Fresh fruits and greens are a must on a daily basis. Also, load up on protein during the main meal, and ensure you use minimal fats and sugar. All of these steps will promote skin health. At every meal, ensure half the meal consists of salad components with no or minimal dressing.
TIP: A diet low in sugar will allow the skin cells to promote a healthy balance, making your face glow.
Hydrate
As simple as drinking at least two litres (eight glasses) of water every day. Also indulge is fruits that have a high water content like melons, cucumbers, citrus fruits, greens and the like. Flavoured water is a good way to trick yourself into drinking more water every day. You can flavour with a variety of things—strawberries, oranges, lemon and mint, cucumber etc.
TIP: Add chia/ sabza seeds to your flavoured water every day, since they have numerous health benefits.
Don’t: Ignore rose water. It helps prevent and reduce eye puffiness in the morning, maintains pH balanceand naturally hydrates your skin if you spritz it on during the day.
Exercise is key
Sweating it out on a daily basis is a necessity. Indulge in whatever works for you—indoors or outdoors, perhaps a mix of both. Mix it up with running, jogging, cycling and yoga. Exercise promotes blood circulation and helps the process of cleaning your body inside out. It regularises bowel movement which leads to a glow on the face and skin. Even when you are short of time, a 15-minute brisk walk will do the trick.
TIP: Ensure you apply appropriate skincare products before your workout and moisturise after your post-workout shower.
Get your beauty sleep
Yes, all the recommended eight hours are needed if you want your face to glow. Getting adequate rest and sleep is not only necessary for the body and mind, but it is also necessary for the skin. The skin is an organ that gets just as tired as any other, and when you don’t get enough sleep this tired organ sags. It will lead to puffy cheeks and bags under your eyes. Take off your makeup and follow the CTM routine before going to bed.
TIP: Try to avoid any screen time(including tablets, phones, TV etc) at least 30 minutes before going to bed.
Prevent acne
Regular cleansing and a skincare routine will ensure you prevent acne to a great extent. But, wash your face with lukewarm water at least once or twice a day, and massage the cleanser on your face in a circular motion for deep cleansing. You can also use natural face packs once a week which provides a face glow.
TIP: Avoids scratching or popping pimples, or it will lead to swelling, redness, and scars.
